Baha'u'llah
and His Covenant
Who is Baha'u'llah?
Bahá'u'lláh was born in 1817 in Tehran and is a descendant of Abraham. From His early childhood, He showed signs of greatness and was endowed with an innate knowledge from God.
Bahá'u'lláh was from a noble family but refused a high position in the king's court in order to dedicate His time to helping the poor, the sick, and the oppressed.
The Manifestations of God, such as His Holiness, Jesus Christ, suffered persecution during their ministries. Bahá'u'lláh also suffered persecution and His life of suffering began with His first imprisonment in 1852 in a dungeon called the 'black pit'. After being released, He and His family began a 40 year period of successive exiles to Baghdad, Constantinople, Adrianople, and finally to the prison city of Acre, Israel. The exiles were an attempt to destroy the new religion but they only served to strengthen the number of believers and their steadfastness in their Faith.
"Remember My days during thy days, and My distress and banishment in this remote prison. And be thou so steadfast in My love that thy heart shall not waver, even if the swords of the enemies rain blows upon thee and all the heavens and the earth arise against thee." - Bahá'u'lláh
Bahá'u'lláh ascended in 1892. His shrine is in 'Akka, Israel.

Bahá'u'lláh's Covenant
Bahá'u'lláh's Covenant promises that the Baha'i Faith will remain as One Faith and will not crumble into the disunity created by different sects. He clearly passed the reins of leadership of the Faith to His son, 'Abdu'l-Baha. Leadership of the Faith was assumed by His great grandson, Shoghi Effendi. At the passing of Shoghi Effendi, the leadership of the Faith was guided by the Universal House of Justice. The Universal House of Justice is located on Mt. Carmel in Israel.
